I’ve been a little confused by the extreme reaction to this game. I’ve played a decent amount of it and, while it’s not a great game by any means, I didn’t hate it. It certainly doesn’t seem like it deserves to be in the top ten worst rated games of all time on Steam. It’s just kinda okay.

It had that feel to it, but I couldn’t figure out what would cause any kind of astroturfed review bomb, it seems pretty inoffensive to me.

/r/games was great for news but terrible for this sort of thing. the same thing happened with Forspoken. was it a fantastic game? not in my opinion, but the hate was so hyperbolic towards it. it’s fine for stuff to just be mid.

i will say in redfall’s case, I’m assuming the over-the-top hate came from the fact that Xbox isn’t putting out (what some would perceive to be) bangers, and the console wars never really left this hobby, lol

my understanding is it was the price point ($70) coupled with the number of cripplingly bad bugs the game had at launch. these can be fixed after the fact but obviously, a bad launch can’t generally be recovered from except in the long term–and i don’t know that Redfall is going to get that kind of leash.

Hmm, I must have just gotten lucky or started the game after the usual early patch caught most of the bad ones. I also played it on PC Game Pass so I wasn’t really evaluating it with a particular price in mind, which I’m sure made a big difference in my experience.
