Happy for the bigger public to get access to better audio stuff, it’s always a great thing.

Not impatient to see marketing everywhere saying “All new technology thought from the ground up”

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Sony Interactive Entertainment, the division of Sony that’s responsible for PlayStation, is acquiring the high-end headphones maker Audeze, according to a press release.

Sony says that “the acquisition will strengthen SIE’s efforts to continue innovating when it comes to the audio experience of PlayStation games.”

Audeze will operate independently and still make products for multiple platforms, though Sony notes that it will be “benefiting from being a part of the PlayStation ecosystem.” Terms of the acquisition weren’t disclosed.

Sony’s press release highlights how Audeze’s headphones use “patented technologies and unique planar magnetic drivers to deliver an outstanding sound experience” for consumers and recording professionals.

Sony specifically mentioned planar magnetic drivers on Thursday when it shared more details on new PlayStation audio products, including the Pulse Explore earbuds and Pulse Elite headset, so it’s feasible this deal has been in the works for some time.

Both headsets will also take advantage of a new technology called PlayStation Link that brings low latency and lossless audio when used with the PS5 and new PlayStation Portal game streaming device.

That’s a good thing. We desperately need good planar headphones. Right now Audeze and Hifiman have basically the same frequency response with that 2k dip. I would love to hear a different-sounding planar

I only have planar iems at this point.

But even for headphones there are quite a few more headphones than Audeze and Hifiman. Try Fostex or Monoprice maybe.

I dont get why they dont have newer models. Dekoni blues (modified fostex) always look neat though.

Which planar iems do you have/recommend? I’ve been thinking about picking up a pair of KZ PR2 pros.

I have Akoustyx S6 and the Tinhifi P1 Max. They are very different not only to each other but to a lot of other planars.

Think of the S6 like “get me etys but make them planar”. They have 6.2mm planar drivers and they have mad accuracy, bass that sometimes feels powerful (might be my shitty source) and can be EQ-d very easily.

On the other hand, the P1 Max is intentionally made to be extremely forgiving. Its bass does not exactly give you planar vibes but is big with a very full body (not in a muddy sense). It also feels like every sharp edge was filed down through the FR chart. Its so good you can literally listen to them when you feel headachy.

KZ PR2 (only P1 has pro version) has a stealth change in newer batches that removes a filter, so it will sound terrible. I dont recommend unless you love roulette.

As for a similar budget Celest Gumiho and Pandamon are solid choices and are pretty affordable on aliexpress right now. TRN Rosefinch is promising but barely reviewed. TRN xuanwu is the cheapest, is well built, but it is reported to sound very weird (almost bought one though).

As for 100-200 the Tinhifi P1 Max would be a solid choice for me. The Akoustyx S6 I would still hold out on a final word, I need a good source. Letshuoers are the goto for most people. TRN Kirin might be an option. So is PR1 and PR1 pro, but why buy KZ for that price jeez. Moondrop stellaris looks enticing.

Ask away if you need help, I browsed them quite a lot these days.
