She’s right, much better to disallow cars in the entire street
10km/h speed limit enforced by missile
Could the fast-moving cars be the problem? No, it’s the bike lane!
Seems like it’s the fast moving cars that are the danger. Maybe slow them down or remove them altogether.
That’s the only solution I see because you can’t magically create parking spots,” said Sczempka
Yes you can. Every person using the bike lane instead of driving does not take a parking space. Voila! Magically new parking space.
I looked up the salon. The road it’s on appears to have never had public parking, it’s been a gutter bike lane as far back as 2009 and all of the parking she says is going away is a large private off-street parking lot that isn’t going anywhere: google maps in 2019, cyclist biking on sidewalk past the salon sign
Soooo I think maybe it’s just Fox news getting some boomers to say some straight up nonsense falsehoods to make all their viewers even more mentally ill.
So basically she’s had a free tax-payer funded car park provided for her business for years and she’s upset that the owners of it are now letting other people use it.
I just shopped on one side of the street, now please excuse me while I drive to the salon across the street.
Not that I think this lady is capable of thinking this deeply, but I wonder whether if people switch from cars to bikes if they’ll go to the salon less frequently. Since your hair isn’t going to be as perfect anyways, if you’re wearing helmets all the time. She could have an ulterior motive.
It’s a good point in this very specific context, for sure.
Are all her clients from out of town?
If not, are her clients local and within walking distance?
If not, I would imagine they are close enough to bus, bike, ride share, etc. I’m assuming those are paid parking spots, so they could offset the cost of parking with using any other mode of transportation.
We (as a society) really have to stop driving places when a dozen other options exist. Driving should be one of the last options to choose, and it would need to be for a reason other than convenience to even come close to justifying.
this is the real reason no dutch people wear a helmet, the government is controlled by the hair styling industry
Looking at Google streetview, this is a classic overbuilt multilane stroad with 40mph speed limit. Which means the city could have had both the parking spaces and a bike lane (parking protected even!) while only losing one auto lane per direction. Such a configuration would also fix the speeding issue.
and, most importantly, not a single junction that isn’t just a fucking intersection with traffic signals, which utterly cripples throughput and makes everyone want to die.
if they turned the major intersections into roundabouts, and reduced all roads to 1 lane per direction i’ll eat my shoe if traffic wouldn’t become way better.
LOL. I think this is a prank.
That said, if they truly have 30 on-street parking spots (that a LOT of space, like entire blocks of on-street parking), then there really needs to be a parking lot or parking garage to serve those businesses.
On-street parking should only be allowed for handicap and special drop off/courier zones, but those must not be in conflict with any bike or pedestrian paths, or it would create hazards.
