  • If “less affluent film markets” use AI, where are the artists going to get their first shot? How will they learn and hone their craft if not in the industry as lower paid talent on lower budget stuff? Just work for free for years and then Disney will start raining money on you eventually? (note: this will not happen)

I don’t know what to do about AI. It’s not even AI that is a problem. It’s capitalism. It’s corporations slashing every tiny expense to maximize profits for the shareholders. If they could just pretend that us film crews were actually valuable, treated us like shareholders, we could have a bigger piece of the pie and they could have better media, but then they’d have slightly less money so…

    Oh well.

  • Why isn’t the farm owner under arrest? They claim they don’t hire illegal immigrants. So is Ice arresting and reporting legal temporary workers, legal American citizens, or is this employer just flouting the law?

if this whole thing were actually about stopping foreign illegal workers, it would be quite easy to just arrest the bosses of any company found to be using them. 1 year in jail and a $2000 for ever worker found to be without proper paperwork. Give the workers half the fine money and a bus ticket back with a warning and put them on a list. They probably deserve more for the abuse they had to tolerate so their American boss could make their money.

Again, if the intention is as we are being told. It’s harsh but fair for everyone involved.

  • Why should an employee give up some of their wages temporarily to other employees? Let’s pretend he decides to do that. Now everyone but him is paid. So is he supposed to go into work and work for free until the producers can gather the money for him? Or stay home until he gets paid? Because the first one isn’t acceptable and the second is what he is doing but with extra steps (and who knows what sort of tax implications)

That’s literally not his job. He is being a good brother to his fellow workers and standing with them until they get paid. If he wanted producer credits he could go negotiate for them now and then the production could use his money, but again: not his job.

Cranston is doing the right thing. Just because he is a very well paid employee doesn’t mean he should be expected to ‘bend’ the rules so Producers can make their movies. Any number of the producers are actually in a position to do exactly what you are asking of Cranston. That IS their job.

  • Where do you live? The reserve armed forces in Canada would fit that bill, depending on your feelings about that. A day a week and a weekend a month, I forget exactly but it’s consistent, paid, but it’s supposed to be easy enough to fit into a normal life schedule. They usually do disaster relief and stuff like that when they do get called, but theoretically you could be signing up for more given the state of the world.

Boy scouts/girl Guides/youth groups are always looking for group leaders.

Volunteer fire also gets close to that mark, it’s voluntary but if you don’t show up you get replaced.

And volunteer becomes “mandatory” the deeper you get. If you can find a small soup kitchen or conservation group, and really hold yourself to it for a few months, you might find you become vital to that organization. Then I guess it’s up to your personal brain chemistry what “mandatory” means. If you have the keys, I’d assume you’d be there 30 minutes before the weekly soup prep afternoon is supposed to start to open up and meet that new person to show them around.

Many of these groups are small and in desperate need of good help and sometimes even leadership. On that same note some are little fifedoms and if you aren’t getting good vibes just cut bait and move on.

  • Massage therapists are fully licenced where I live (Canada) They are not, however, licenced to give advice about supplements. Which is why she told me to go to my doctor. But since she went to school for years and takes annual courses to keep up to date on human bodies and how they function, and she spends every day of her life literally hands on hundreds of different human bodies for the past 25 years so far, I’d say she has a much better grasp on how supplements affect people than my plumber, if I had a plumber.

  • Thank you for doing that. I found this out first thing in the morning and am now on my first work break, I hope I would have figured this out eventually but it was bothering me already today. My workmate had the rational thought “it’s got to be a factor of 10 difference or something, you should reread the label when you get home.”

But again, thanks, now I have a little peace in my head until I can do some more research. I poison my liver with alcohol. I don’t need extra help…

As for why I take it, I was instructed to by my family doctor as well as my (far more trusted and who I’ve known far longer) Massage therapist, who explicitly said “I can’t legally tell you to take supplements because laws and such, but go ask your doctor about x,y,z.” Which I did.

  • In my bathroom cabinet I have 6250mg tumeric gummies, which I take in the morning with my multivitamin for inflammation. I bought this well known brand (Jamieson) from a reputable source.

Am I not supposed to be able to trust that a basic suppliment from Shoppers is safe? This isn’t “magic sleep improvement concoction” or some underground fad wellness brand selling mushroom infusions… This is a large and old company that makes half the shit in my cabinet…

  • Can’t wait for the article “Selfish asshole kills 8 year old rushing to hospital to pretend saying “goodbye” to a brain dead warm body counts for anything.”

Reading comprehension is also low, it says the police escorted them to the hospital. So enjoy your psychotic fantasy of checks notes running red lights and driving on the curb to get to your already brain-dead son. We can all collectively hope you never have an excuse to be so reckless, and if you do, you are the only one who has to suffer for it.
