Jesus in canon was only violent one time and it was against the merchant class. In some translations they were merely set up outside the temple not even in it. He also called for a new Jubilee, which is cyclic debt forgiveness holiday.

Capitalism is anti christian and has been from the beginning.

Although he is credited with the modern phrase, a version of Marx’s “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” can be found in the New Testament.

³² And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. ³³ And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. ³⁴ Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, ³⁵ And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

Oh, that’s a nice tidbit to remember whenever someone asks for more faith in the govt.

“Yes sounds great, let’s start by making Jubilee a national holiday where we forgive student debts and delinquent loans. Just like in the scriptures”

While we’re at it, he wasn’t a fan of public displays if faith either

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.

They clearly don’t believe in Jesus. At this point they are just pretending to be Christians and destroying it from within, at least in the US. American-style Christianity still hasn’t spread everywhere, yet.

They believe in the Jesus their pastor tells them about. They don’t read the Bible.

But I’m not going to call them fake Christians. That’s a ‘no true Scotsman.’ They worship Christ, so they are Christians. It doesn’t matter that they don’t worship the Jesus of the Bible. The Jesus of the Bible was fictional anyway.

I am not the one calling them fake Christians, God did

James 2:10 “For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” The Bible said to take care of the poor and sick, fairly simple commandment, and they are failing to follow it.

                https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman

Not a logical fallacy. Anyone can claim they worship Christ, but all religion have obligations that if you don’t follow you are clearly not a follower.

No one can follow everything in the Bible. It contradicts itself all over the place.

No one can follow “feed the hungry, heal the sick, and house the houseless”? I understand if it was some contradictory command, but this one clearly isn’t.

I will give an example from Islam since I am more familiar with it. Alcohol is prohibited in Islam yet some people claim to be Muslims and consume it. Those people fall under one of two, no third:

                1. They know they are committing a sin and feel bad about it.
                2. Deny they are committing a sin.

Those who are group 1, are still Muslims but sinners, but group 2 are out out out!

So those who don’t to feed the hungry and deny the obligation, aren’t Christian.

It is a fallacy, just not a formal fallacy. It is within the purview of informal fallacies. An informal fallacy is found in the content of the argument itself, not its logical structure. The “no true Scotsman” fallacy occurs when the standards for a category are arbitrary, irrelevant, or are established in an ad hoc manner purely to win the argument.

You can be a part of a group with strict tenets, and be a hypocrite that follows none of it too. After all, you cannot be a hypocrite of something without having placed yourself within the group or set of tenets of which you are hypocritically not following. Thus you can be a Christian, and a hypocrite. You can say that, you are either a hypocrite or a Christian, and that’s all well and good too, but perhaps that’s a different argument. In language, you can specify the group or set of tenets one is a hypocrite of. Thus these are Christian hypocrites. Just as there are probably a few Muslim Hypocrites too.

Today’s “Christians” are absolutely KILLING Christianity because the kids see the dishonesty, blasphemy and hypocrisy - most young people want nothing to do with it, except those who see a free lunch in it.

Honestly, I was down with Christianity until college. I’m not Catholic, but I attended a Catholic University. I was raised Lutheran.

College was a really good experience for me. I got a good education, made friends, and had fun. I still have good feelings about the school.

However, the hypocrisy of the conservative Catholic leaders of the university, and their cowardice in the face of a calm discussion of issues, led me to see that the Christianity I was taught to believe, while overwhelmingly positive, was not lived by most people who claimed to be Christian.

Edit: that was about 33 years ago.

As I became an adult, it became clear to me that it was just an excuse for my narcissistic parents to not have to take responsibility for their actions.

“I’ll have to answer to God when I die.”

How convenient. So you’ll never answer to those of us you wronged.

I’m not sure you’ve paid attention to such parts of its history as pornocracy, trade in indulgence papers, reformation wars, slave bibles with parts about slavery not being Christian censored out, church support for Hitler and Stalin, today’s Vatican having best relationships with genocidal dictatorships (ones destroying Christian heritage at that), need I go on?

      EDIT: That was about “today’s”.

Having said all that, being resilient to rotten authority and fighting against that is too part of Christianity as a religion.

I heard this kind of started happening in the 1940’s or so, but then there was a big resurgence of religion for some reason in the 50’s. I can only imagine where we’d be if that didn’t happen.

imo, it’s the theatrics that bring people in the coughcultcough.

    buuut this formula works:

less food in school => low performance in school => less educated => more “faith” => easily swayed by “faith” people

i am brought up by generations of teachers so i tend to value education somewhat.

The attack on education has a lot of benefits for them, but high on the list: they dont want critical thinkers. They want people who can be manipulated into “voting 3rd party”, or who can be lulled into apathy, so that they can enact Project 2025.

    Amen!

On a related note, many students in the USA who rely on free school lunches experience food insecurity over the summer break.

If you can afford it, consider making a donation to programs that help to meet this need right now. Check with your county to find out what organization serves them.

“Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.”
