Although the 13th Amendment seemingly outlawed slavery in 1865, its authors carved out an exception for people convicted of a crime. It’s time to put an end to this injustice.

It’s mind blowing to note the differences between how, after the civil war, black people were convicted of very minor crimes, how this continues through today, versus how convicted felon Trump is being treated.

This is what gets me about juneteenth. Slavery still exists as a criminal act as it was then in texas. Seems like passing of the 13th should be the day and the emphasis should be on its failures and getting it fixed.
