I’d say it was at least an 8/10, if not a 9/10 or 10/10. I would highly very recommend this book series to anyone who’s a fan of science fiction, especially if they have watched the TV adaptation of The Expanse, because if you enjoyed the TV adaptation, you’ll likely also enjoy the books

I loved it. Loved the entire series. The TV adaptation had to veer away from the content of the later books unfortunately. Really recommended reading

I really also enjoyed the series as well, and the TV series was a rare case when the show sticks pretty close to the source material too. I was sad when it got cancelled.

Just watched two episodes of the expanse last night because of your post. I’ll probably keep giving it a shot since it wasn’t too bad. Love the aesthetic they have going on.

The plot changes with each book, but here’s what the back of this book says:

For generations, the solar system - Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt - was humanity’s greatest frontier. Until now. The alien artefact working through its programme under the clouds of Venus has appeared in Uranus’ orbit, where it has built a massive gate that leads to a starless space beyond.

Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artefact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding - with Holden’s destruction at its core.

Abbadon’s Gate is the explosive third novel in the acclaimed Expanse series, following the Hugo-nominated Leviathan Wakes and Caliban’s War.

It’s a sort of space opera type story taking place a few hundred years in the future. Tensions between humans in the solar system are high, particularly the contradiction between the inner planets (imperial powers) and the asteroid belt and outer planets (periphery and colonized).

The whole series follows the crew of a single ship and revolves around the aforementioned conflict as well as a mysterious and powerful alien substance that suddenly appears in the solar system.
