A committee of the Bar filed professional misconduct complaints against Webster and Paxton for asking the U.S. Supreme Court to toss the 2020 election results in four key battleground states won by Joe Biden. The committee alleged the lawsuit, which was rejected for a lack of standing, made false claims and raised doubts about the election.

The State Bar prohibits lawyers from “engag[ing] in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation” in its professional conduct guidelines.

The Texas Supreme Court, made up of nine Republicans, found that allowing the bar to police the attorney general’s actions would represent an overstep of the judicial branch into the executive branch.

No, you see a non-partisan group of 9 conservatives decided that the conservative Attorney General and his conservative assistant were out of the reach of the State Bar which granted them their licenses in the first place.
