This article seems like a whole load of “could be this, could be that, nobody knows but we thought we’d write an article anyway”
“There are guys who shouldn’t be here - some with criminal records, some with PTSD, and some with drug and alcohol problems or who use steroids,” one volunteer told The Telegraph
Reminder the US military doesn’t test for steroids. Not as part of normal drug testing, or when it’s obvious someone is on it and it’s causing issues.
Real fucked up they go after potheads and not the ones having roid rage all the time.e
Realistically it’s not just people who genuinely want to help Ukraine over there, but scum that just comes to fuck shit up and want to live their video game fantasies. No doubt there are a number of POS among the volunteers.
I distinctly remember a situation where American volunteers executed a surrendering, unarmed Russian soldier to the horror of the European volunteers in the group and leading to the rest of the Russians stopping their surrender and going out fighting instead: https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/10phb3z/rcombatfootage_believes_they_can_handle_the_truth/
There is a big difference in attitude that is taught between the American and European armies.
When the news about this dude broke I was downvoted here for raising specifically this possibility, lol.
Yeah, you sometimes can’t fathom the downvotes. It makes sense that if you open the doors to international brigades if volunteers and don’t closely vet them, then you are going to get some bad apples and that can turn deadly in high stress situations like this.
