After having eluded me for months, I finally managed to see a Green Woodpecker again! I often hear their laugh-like call, but haven’t been able to see them for a while. They’re one of my favourites!

If you haven’t heard their calls yet, I strongly encourage you to go to YouTube and listen to them — they’re fantastic. They really sound like someone’s laughing at you.

Not really the same thing, and hope I don’t sound like a psychopath, but I really hope one day I find bugs on my car’s hood again. I’m just back from a 10 hour drive in the middle of the night, and my car has exactly zero bugs on it.

And what a nice picture you took!! I really need to invest in a better camera. Birds are seriously underrepresented in my iNaturalist account.

Regarding the woodpecker: I heard a green one the other day (identified via BordNET) and they sound really crazy. And I also saw a common woodpecker nest the other day!

Thank you! :-) Not my favourite picture (way too far away) but I am glad I managed to take one at all.

By Common Woodpecker you mean the Great Spotted Woodpecker? They’re great! I hear their calls basically every time I walk outside and I also spotted a nest a few days ago — a hole in a tree with screaming babies inside!

Sorry, that was probably too vague and maybe even false. To me, the black-red-white woodpeckers always seemed to be “the common ones” :D I live in Germany so depending on your location that might be different. I saw a nest of Dendrocopos major to be specific ;)
