@soller@lemmy.world I suspect I know the answer already, but is there any plan that the Pop! Shop will be replaced when the new Pop! Cosmic DE ISO is built? I know the current Pop! Shop was based on the Elementary package manager, so I’m hoping there are plans for a change.
Yes, it will eventually be rewritten to use Rust and iced.
These changes look great! I totally agree with the decision to make the tiling non-modal. I can’t wait to try out the alpha!
This looks glorious! I know it’s Pop!_OS, but with all this functionality, Cosmic would actually live up to the name “Windows”, unlike the product actually named Windows. Cosmic is a cooler name anyway :)
As a single screen user, I am really happy to see all these features. Any chance there will be a way to pin arbitrary windows on top, hide the chrome etc? Most of the time the apps I want pinned already include such features, but sometimes they don’t and it’s annoying.
New tiling looks great!
Congrats on another step! Tiling has become my favorite feature of pop os, and (for me) the key thing that separates it from other distros. Moving a whole stack at once is something I’ve been wanting, so I’m glad to see that as one of the new features!
The new tiling looks very nice. I love it .
For cosmic do you guys have any interest in a miller columns style file manager?
I would love to have a nice column style file manager 😃. I use ranger every day and used to use mac, and its basically my main problem with nautilus
Can we keep the Hot Corner feature in the new DE? Please? I use it to switch between open windows on a regular. Its the only way I switch between open windows. lol Its one of the main reasons I use Gnome. Please Please Please include it.
Thanks for these updates. Everytime there’s news about COSMIC’s progress we can see it making strides. Tiling is something that’s become my go-to feature while working. It’s why I stay on Pop!
Sorry to bother, but quick question. If someone wants to write an application with COSMIC’s look, uses libcosmic as opposed to iced?
Yes, to have integration with cosmic themes, widgets and tech; you must use libcosmic. There’s also a potential opportunity to use Slint as they’re making a COSMIC theme.
