Reddit knows they’re only losing a small portion of their users. The users that are leaving, however, are the core users. They’re the moderators that keep the subreddits clean. The longtime users that have been providing quality content for 5+ years.
I think we’re going to see a drastic change in reddits content after this. I’ve already deleted my 11y account, but I’m going to keep an eye on the site over the next couple months (via old.reddit.com, of course) and see what happens.
I hope we’ll see websites like kbin grow and thrive. I already have confidence in the developers and maintainers, and so far the user base is amazing. Even though I have to use a web app on my iPhone, which does have some bugs, I’m already committed.
I would like to say, though, PLEASE provide feedback and suggestions for kbin. Let’s make this site what Reddit should have been. Let’s make it 1000% more appealing to would-be new Reddit users. We’ve all got this.

Hi MrSomeguy, I too deleted my 8 year account. Do you know if there is a mobile app already for kbin? I used relay and loved it.
Currently, there is no mobile apps for kbin yet
And hello fellow Relay user!
There isn’t a native mobile app, but this website is what’s known as a “progressive web application”. This means that you can just add it directly to your home screen and it will act app-like. See this thread for exact iOS instructions. Android is similar but does depend on which browser you’re using.
Yup, good to know
Well seems Greedy little Pigboy Steve huffman has got exactly the same Spirt as his fellow Redditors when it comes to the Strike, just means we’ll have to continue forward and follow through to, The main effort current moderators should start working on is to help migrate as many people as possible to services like kbin and Lemmy, also to people who are Reddit mods, here’s a tip: Make an Example of all the people saying that, Protests are stupid, aren’t going to work, are a waste of time, you’re gonna come crawling back etc. Ban them permenantly from your communities and call them out (in a mod-distinguished reply to their infringing message) as the trolls and scabs they are and show that this behavior isn’t rewarded with status, dignity, or reputation.
I don’t believe anything will change, but it’s heartening to see it anyway.
I’ve had 3 reddit accounts over the entire lifetime of the website. I love Reddit but I won’t stand for their greed. It’s unacceptable.
I’ve been using it since like, 2013, feels like an end of an era, this site seems really similar, hopefully it has lasting power
Agreed. It’s been so long but I think that’s exactly why Reddit needs to go under. Like yahoo or any other business that makes mistakes.
I put in a ridiculous amount of moderation work. I’m quite sad about it. I guess there’s not really much of a choice anymore.
It’s not like you’ve wasted that time, you made a community work for some amount of time and Reddit being done for does not change that
I wish an alternative would work out.
… he posted, on an alternative platform
They did specify “work out”, let’s see how this goes in a few months time.
hardest part is getting used to the differences. But hopefully enough migrate away.
The hardest part is lacking all the beautiful non tech sections of reddit; i doubt any will make their way here. Hope to be wrong!
We just need to bring the content here
Agreed, we need to help people find their way here. They’re not going to come unless they know where to go.
This one is already really similar to reddit at least, I long for the bar at the top that shows all the communities I’m subbed too, it’s definitely possible the people running this one will make changes too
It also desperately needs mobile apps. Using the website on mobile leaves a lot to be desired. That is hopefully coming though
Of course the nice thing is that anyone can create a fediverse mobile app without restrictions.
But apparently, there’s a mobile app ‘coming soon’ - see the bottom of https://kbin.pub
