Futurama is my spouse and sons favorite show. It’s been nice bonding over it.

Does anyone else think it just doesn’t hit the same when it’s not 4:3 and slightly blurry? Don’t get me wrong I love the show, and new content will probably be good, just curious if others feel the same about the aesthetic hah

There is something to aspect ratios or low res but it not quite just those things. Those things should get the people making shows to design the show to look good in that format. Those design decisions then can lead to a different feel.

As an example it’s kinda hard to have a ton of stuff going on in a single frame with low resolution. Props or visual designs might be simpler. The way people would be positioned in a shot would have different limits for the aspect ratio as well.

Always Sunny is in the same boat with older seasons then moving to HD. I think some of the creators of the show wanted to keep doing 4:3 but I’m not 100%.

Haha sunny is the other show I rewatch all the time and feel it there too.

Totally understand your point, it’s not just literally the aspect ratio, but rather more generally the restricted medium (compared with today) and how you worked with it

I hope it returns to season 1-3 quality, but if I am being honest i am not very optimistic about it :(

I’m going to look at it like pizza. Pizza is great. Good pizza is awesome. Meh pizza still does the job. Bad pizza is extremely rare.

I like this POV. Meh pizza is still pizza, better than most other things.
Less than stellar Futurama is still going to wind up being my favorite current television show.

Yes! Even if it’s just ‘okay,’ well it’s still more Futurama and they’d really have to butcher it for it to end up ‘bad.’

I trust that the actors, animators, writers and producers involved with the comeback are invested enough in it to do good work. Worst case scenario we get some half decent Futurama. But yeah it’s definitely important that we don’t hype things like this, I’ve been burned enough times

Yes, they got the original voice of Bender back. John DiMaggio rightly felt they were lowballing him with their offer, and held out for a better one, which he apparently was able to snag.

He didn’t get a raise, although him and the rest of the VA crew probably should have. He did say he was happy to ignite some discussion about it, even if he didn’t get the pay bump.

I’m sad he didn’t get it, but happy he’s playing Bender. A different VA per episode would have been interesting, I admit, but I would prefer John in the role 10 out of 10 times.

So, are you married to futurama, and it’s your son’s favorite show, or are you married to your son, and futurama is their favorite show?

But why did they have to put it on one of the fifty billion streaming services?

      Hulu is paying for it.
