Seems like they might have taken the Southern Military District. I have no idea what the end game here is but it’s a crazy news item. Could influence a lot of geopolitical events in the years to come. Or it could be a flash in the pan that’s over shortly.

Dude is shifty and scary in equal measure, much like Putin. Is there something about Russian genetics that turns a sixty year old man into a Bond villain?

I think Putin is in on it. I mean the dude is Putins bitch and is only there to make him look good.

To me it seems like it’s “fake opposition” to flush out any rebels and take off heat from Putin.

I see that as like a 50/50, Prigozhin has really been aiming his ire at MOD/Shoigu and military leadership. Not Putin. So this may be more of the dictator letting the infighting continue (or its finally boiling over out of his control). Ultimately, we’re not going to know until time has passed. Whatever it ends up being, I just hope it degrades their efforts in Ukraine.

    tl;dr:

Vladimir Putin is facing a major military crisis after Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin declared war on Moscow’s own defense ministry, claiming Kremlin officials had killed thousands of his soldiers. POLITICO could not verify the claim that Wagner troops had entered Rostov and Prigozhin did not present evidence of the massive troop movements he claimed were underway. Prigozhin claims around 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in the war on Ukraine. Prigozhin’s move comes after he claimed 2,000 Wagner men were killed as a result of strikes ordered by Russia’s Ministry of Defense. In one video appeal, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, first deputy chief of the general staff of the armed forces, said Prigozhin does not have the authority to give orders.
