If I “fact check” something I use a search engine, not Facebook…
The problem with search engines is the same investors that own stock in medicines also own parts of big tech. You end up in a situation where investors are fact checking everything and calling opposing viewpoints disinformation or dangerous. To the point that legal action is threatened if valid information is not removed. Search results are altered. The front page of google is not an organic thing, it is carefully cultivated to remove wrong think. What’s worse is this effects other search engines with different data points because google is so large that their front page results will be most quoted. All modern search engines use some form of a page rank algorithm so you get this self confirming effect.
The only maybe not pozzed search engines are searx instances, and the search results suck. If you want a good balanced, DuckDuckDuck is probably the best bet right now. They get their results from Bing and the company is pretty SJWish in their hiring practices, but the results are pretty good and less censored. Example: researching a gun for purchase and looking up shops is easier on DDG.
I’ve been Happy with brave search. If that doesn’t work then DDG, finally google after that.
