The people you know well enough to trust them are close to you but unknown to others, so other people wouldn’t really appreciate your unswer if it was just some common unknown people. You mostly cannot bet on the character of celebrities, because you don’t know them personally (see Gaiman). Fictional characters are known by many people and their personalities are nicely described in the books, movies, whatever…

I do feel pain. When it comes to physical pain, it’s kind of more dull than my own pain. And it’s not just about pain, I feel other perceptions as well. Looking at someone being in a very cold environment in a movie makes me shiver. When it comes to emotions, I often feel other’s emotions as strongly as my own.
But with new technology available, so the sci-fi distopia analogy makes sense.
They said they believe Jesus taught tolerance. They didn’t say it’s the ultimate fact just that they believe it. Of course you can find anything in the Bible. You can interpret the text in a hundred ways. There’s no one true interpretation. You can just choose one to believe in that makes sense to you (or decide non of it is for you). I think sugar_in_your_tea has chosen a very positive interpretation.

The only bad thing that happened to them on the way was diarrhea - which sucks, but after a few days’ stop at a pakistani hospital (one guy lost too much liquid and had to get an infusion) they continued happily.
