    Why must EVs be horrendously over-styled? Is it a regulatory requirement or something?

      It’s because the two most important metrics of EVs , range + performance, aren’t visible.

      And - let’s be honest here - those metrics are mostly the same across manufacturers due to battery limitations.

      So they have to overcompensate with style to stand out from that other EV that uses the same base platform and the same battery chemistry and the same charging system and etc etc.

        Both.
        Obviously, designs change with the times and are always subjective and often polarizing. However, EVs seem to be more consistently disliked than other vehicles for some reason.

        We know Hyundai/Kia can make pretty, modern cars. See: Elantra N and Ioniq 5

      Trying to show they are the new hotness.

      Making the vehicles look like a normal car is one of the things that brought a lot of sales to Tesla. They had a distinct style, but it wasn’t completely out of line with the general market.
