!consolerepair@lemmy.world

There was no coordinated effort to relocate r/consolerepair to a lemmy community, so we’re starting from scratch. The community is open to console repair questions for all generation consoles, as well as functional mods (e.g., ODE/RGB/HDMI mods). Come on over!

Awesome! This is a hobby that I would really like to explore. I watch a ton of YouTube videos on the subject.

Does anyone know a community for really old computers? Like UsagiElectric or Adrian’s Digital Basement type stuff?

I wasn’t part of the original but I subscribed anyway. Thanks for creating the community!

Hell yes! Watching console repairs is my medicine, and I hope to do some myself.

I got an XBOX that might have some bad caps… I should look at it now.

OG Xbox is pretty easy to restore, would recommend that you do it soon. Some models have a battery that will leak. Also get thermal paste remover, the paste they used on the thing is more gum than paste. I could not remove it with alcohol or anything else, it was hell. Maybe also replace the fan with a more quiet fan. I had a lot of fun restoring it, really worth it!

Thanks for the advice! I have a few games for the OG Xbox, my most prized being Panzer Dragoon. I must beat that one day.
