Root just makes a whole lot more sense considering his role in everything that has happened so far. Plus Luto just sounds really off.

As someone who read the WN and the Manga I don’t think they did the explanation scene justice. Granted cramming all of the details into an anime would be somewhat challenging since exposition dump in moving media never really goes well flow wise.
