      Well, not just the sex, just all the sorts of “out of character” behaviors which were pushed before people would even have settled into feeling what “in character” feels like. Heck, before the writers and actors really settled into the long term “in character” would even be like, for example Picard softened up quite a bit to be a much more likeable character. Sure it was obvious that things were “off”, but if the audience knew the characters better, it might have had more impact.
