I don’t remember what it was called, but OSX used to have a separate desktop screen just for widgets.

I see, and looking into it, it’s been gone for a few years, which is what I remembered.
This article is pretty flimsy, with the author saying “widgets??” and drawing conclusions from that as if they’d never heard of or seen Dashboard.
I agree. The 4th paragraph immediately gave that off. Pretty used to these scenes by now though.
It would be nice if journalists or editors made sure that articles sounded like the author was knowledgeable about the topic. I suppose that ship has long sailed.
To me, this suggests that the people at The Verge are possibly too young, or has only dabbled a couple of years into macOS to even know or remember its history, which is fine, but it does mean I won’t look to them for really in-depth analysis of the Apple Ecosystem. It’s hard to realize what you don’t know after all.
