It’s just pronounced like "ss’ double S sound.

Eg. Groß - pronounced “grohss” - meaning: large/big

        Or Fußball - “fooss-ball”

We need more of these. We need one for “ation” and ‘ing’. Maybe one for ‘con’. Back when I learned shorthand, the ‘con’ symbol was seriously the most useful with ‘ation’ the next runner up. The zeugma just doesn’t work nowadays for ‘ng’. No I don’t know the shorthand for ‘dinosaur’.

Technically a different thing. ‘Defunct’ single letter forms rather than abbreviation marks. Those are a whole bucket of mackerel that does my head in any time I need to attempt reading them. Never tried shorthand 🦕

Comes in very handy for scrabble. It’s the z in Menzies (which is pronounced ‘mingis’) and represents the ng sound. Written it’s a z with a long tail like a ‘g’. Also features in the surname Dalziel (pronounced ‘dee ell’ with the ng bit being silent).
Long ago I came to the conclusion that the Scots and the Irish can’t spell. So they make up weird spellings to piss off the English. Which strategy has proven to be very successful. Not that the English can’t do weird spellings too, they can, but the Scots are a whole nother ballgame.
I understand it all boils down to a basically celtic pronunciation, but written down by Norman French speakers using a very different alphabet which was not designed for the purpose.

Best decision I ever made honestly. I don’t know how I lived before having Gibson.

I live alone and have spent long stretches not dating so having a little semi feral companion makes life a lot more fun.

Mum always had cats while I was growing up, and usually at least 1 dog as well so I’ve always really liked the cheeky buggers. Obviously I haven’t been able to have cats or pets at all in the system, but once I move out I’m going to get a cat the moment I can

Awake at 5am. I hate non daylight savings.

Also it’s autism acceptance month. Seeing lots of promotion of it at work but no actual discussion of how they actually do anything positive to help people with ASD. Nor the fact that many employees hide it because they don’t want to become a target / be put in the spotlight. It’s also ironic that return to office is pushing ahead, when people with ASD often find corporate offices a sensory hell. (Apart from other issues like dealing with commutes etc)

Not dissing pride or pride month here, I just don’t like when companies take over events and social causes for the sake of trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of people

Master builder who does private building inspections, he has a YT channel.

It’s really put me off buying anything newer than 20 years old.

And has made me look at the housing built in the 60s with new admiration, might be fuckin’ Melton but those houses are made well. Made with real bricks and roofs that don’t leak!!

I think our house was built in the 50s with extensions added in the 80s (though I’m not positive on that). I’m sure there’s probably a term for the sort of style, but it’s basically a wooden house on stilts. There’s been a few issues, especially with leaky roofs, but usually it comes down to something breaking 2 years ago, the dodgy tradies the department hire coming out to fix it and doing a really bad.job, and then their half arsed fix falling apart as soon as there’s a bit of rain

Witnessed a massive emotional support ute nearly rear end a tiny af Kia, in heavy rain tonight. The type of heavy rain where nobody who is sensible would dare to do more than 25 in a 60 zone.

I still haven’t gone back looking for the ginger ninja again, and may not have the energy to. I’m in a lot of pain, fighting to manage Melbcat’s fiddly health, and facing fresh stressors with the cooked arseholes of my neighbourhood.

Edit: Guilt got to me. I went to check while Moobeans was sleeping, minding the crazies, and actually saw him. Unfortunately he was hanging out firmly on private property. I circled the block but those orange buns were planted in place and I refuse to get done for trespassing. So… Can’t take him to the vet for the messed up eyes if he won’t come out :/

I got home and Melbcat was awake, crying because I’d left. We’re back on the bed now.

I just hate seeing animals be neglected or suffer. I’m really not sure if he’s someone’s pet or a stray, didn’t want to get closer or risk touching him to see if there was a collar and also didn’t have time to stop that one day.

The only times I’ve ever seen him were around a very specific spot on a particular street or very rarely walking past my unit in the past. So if he’s a pet he’s allowed to wander.
