I know this is a double-edge sword and I can see why some would disagree on this but I mean it’s a ‘unpopular opinion’ so I going to say it anyway
For me, I found discussing about one on the Fediverse is lot like talking to the wall dispite having hashtags. I felt like I can’t talk about my comfort-artist as much. Reasons why people still use Twitter dispite Elon Musk made it identical to Gab & Trust Soical is there’s content creator and celebrity there which is easy to get updates from there.
In theory, I should be alright with Threads but not as excited as it has some moderating issue such as LibsOfTikTok known for spreading Transphobia and pushing the narrative that all trans people are groomers. If this wasn’t made by big company like Facebook, Admins of various instances would defederated straight away until they take moderation seriously.
Better alternative would be making an instance which is primarily for music artist or well-known content creator so anyone who isn’t fond of that culture can simply mute/block the instance and move on.
I don’t want that garbage here at all, the celebrities can stay on twitter. This space is not meant for celebrity worship, and honestly there’s no room for it. +1 for an opinion I disagree with.
Celebrity worship is a cancer, I enjoy lemmy for that reason, much less emphasis on who posted it.
Celebrities are boring. Small artists is what I miss
Upvote cause actually unpopular opinion.
But also gtfoh with that nonsense
I understand intellectually that following “celebrities” and hearing about the minutia of their lives is something that a lot of people want. But for the life of me, I can’t really grasp it. I’m glad there are platforms that cater to that sort of thing for you.
Definitely going to be an unpopular opinion that it’s a “con” though, I expect most here would consider it a feature.
In the immortal words of the great philosopher Axl Rose, “Vicarious existence is a fucking waste of time.”
As the only real celebrity on Lemmy, I am shocked and appalled by your statement. Shocked, I say.
Say something nice to the artists you like on the SAG strike though, it’s a difficult time, and I’m sure they would appreciate it.
Not a fan of celebrity content, but having up and coming people like YouTubers, twitch streamers and others building communities on here feels fine. I think there’s a big difference between old mate who’s got 100k subs on YouTube wanting to post content and Kim Kardashian who just wants about platform to shitpost onto
I think we should all be equal and shouldn’t have celebrities.
They are welcome as normal people, they cam create account and join discussion l, but don’t give us their real name.
Reason is they are just trying to sell us something. Sometimes it is their work, which is almost acceptable, but most of the time something else.
If we are going to have ads, make them opt in and obvious, don’t mask them under some celebrity’s name.
100% agree. And I think it’s important to note that even with good intentions they would do that, because that’s how their life is and how they experience things. If I tell you that right now I’m reading a book or whatever you would not think I have a hide agenda. But if I’m famous and I tell you that right now I am filming a movie, everyone will feel that they are promoting that film even if it is not in porpouse.
Successful unpopular opinion.
Celebrities and well known creators don’t post for fun. It’s all work, and money for them. So if they are here, greater monetization is here too.
This is an unpopular opinion, updooted
I think you mean lack of celebrities / well-known content creators? I.e. plural? Well, I suppose it’s up to us, the users, to recommend Lemmy to as many other people as possible to grow the used base and make it more attractive to celebrities to use, right?
I don’t just mean Lemmy but Fediverse in general. Otherwise, yeah I am encouraging copule my friend to try it out as well
I kinda agree with this, but only to a certain extent and mostly for Mastodon, and not Lemmy. With how difficult it can be to find people to follow on Mastodon, I think my experience has definitely been worsened by not really having at least a few of my favourite twitter posters on there, leaving me basically to fumble around in the dark slowly making my way towards an acceptable feed in spite of the platform. If I didn’t believe in the potential of the platform and the ideas behind it, I don’t think I would ever put that much time using something I don’t really like trying to make it work for me.
Lemmy is a different story though, I really don’t care who posts what as long as there are posts. Just like on Reddit, I can probably only recognise a very small number of usernames because it just doesn’t matter so much in this format.
