In Europe, most “euroskeptic” parties are also fascist parties. They have taken up the mantle of being against the EU from leftist parties. I can remember Jeremy Corbyn in the UK being skeptic and even outright against the EU. The fascists have done the same with the anti-war sentiment and it is the far-right parties who are against arming NATO and direct confrontation with Russia.
Socialists, communists have plenty to hate the EU for. A big reason is that EU law actually forbids EU states from nationalising industries and resources. For the EU, privatisation is the only way forward.
The EU is a neoliberal, neocolonial institution and is the “natural” enemy of every socialist.
There’s not even a left wing eurosceptic party in my country to vote for
Sounds like an opportunity to organise! You don’t have to form a party, you can form a non-party affiliated organisation.
There’s a lot of socialist eurosceptic organisations in the Netherlands already, but none of them are running. And I’m a member of one of them
Then don’t vote, I know I’m not. If the organisations become big enough, they can exert pressure on parties, or form their own down the line.
I’m probably voting blank
Does that have any effect? As in, if the majority voted blank would the election be nullified?
No, but it’s a clear protest vote
Right, but they count the ballot as “invalid”. That’s why I hate elections, they never give an actual option of a protest vote. If I could vote “nobody”, I’d vote every time.
In the Netherlands they are seperated
