Every time a song goes on, I can’t focus on anything else because I feel the lyrics going into my brain and replacing my thoughts with other words. Especially if I’m trying to do homework or coding. So because of this, I only listen to classical music or the instrumental tracks of modern songs I do like. My sister thinks it’s weird. I only listen to lyrical songs if I want to sing them (theatre kid)

Does anyone else relate?

yes, for me for sure! I find music with words totally distracting when I’m trying to read or write - I was never able to work while listening to music

on the other hand, I find listening to music when I’m driving in the car really helps distract half of my brain so I am able to actually get some good thinking with the other half of my brain which is now uncluttered and less distractible

When I’m trying to study, lyrics don’t work, definitely. That part of my brain is occupied. Tell your sister to get off your back, wtf does she care what music you listen to?

I am absolutely like this! Especially if I’m trying to write, I end up just typing the song lyrics lol. I love music, but I have to be very careful in my selections when I need my focus to be elsewhere.

Definitely. Background music is great. But it has to be instrumental (almost any genre) or lyrics have to be in a language I don’t speak. Otherwise, it’s way too distracting.

I basically only listen to music when showering or doing chores. Even without lyrics, it’s too distracting.
