One time long ago I stayed up all night tripping lsd on a ranch and at dawn befriended turkeys who flew down out of the trees to eat grasshoppers etc. Damn near thought we were for real communicating

The “flightless” livestock birds like Turkeys, peacocks and chickens can still produce enough lift to roost in a tree and get back down.

It’s pretty trippy when you see a tree full of chickens and you bring the corn out.

Yea well they spread their wings and glide down and flap a lil bit right at the end. First time I ever saw that. These ones weren’t super big and fat like your typical picture of a huge Turkey though. They slept up in the tree to be safe from predators like coyotes and rattlesnakes.

Less of a graceful defiance of gravity, more like doing pull-ups without a bar. Like they figured out how to double-jump and it takes some work.
