It was a level 8 mission with me and 3 other randoms to take out Terminid nests. We had just finished up a level 7 Automaton operation, and one of the 4 of us leaves the game immediately after realizing we aren’t on a bot planet anymore. Down a squad member, the three of us are getting destroyed. We find the super samples pretty quick though and start dragging them along with us towards the extraction point, trading them from person to person as we die and taking out nests along the way. Somehow, we manage to destroy the bare minimum number of nests before time runs out, and we start running straight for the extraction.
The timer finally runs out as we run and the emergency shuttle is sent out. In the frantic running and dodging of bile titans though, the three of us managed to get separated. The first diver makes it to the extraction point but the second seems to have been pinned down in the middle of the map, and I’m somewhere in between. I’ve lost track of who has our samples at this point, so hopefully it’s the guy at the extraction point. That’s when the person in the middle dies, and the Super Sample counter falls from 5 to 0. I’m closest, so with 1:50 left on the shuttle landing timer, I turn around and go back for them. It’s a hairy run, but I grab them and start running back. I’m almost there, and Pelican finally lands, starting the 20 second timer till take off. The first person to make it back isn’t boarding yet though, they’re still fighting to keep the path clear. I’m so close, but not quite on the ramp when the timer hit 0. Pelican didn’t take off immediately though. He first announced that “Time’s up, we need to leave now!”, and the length of that warning was all the extra time needed to finally board the shuttle.

All that for 5 Super Samples.
Nice! Glad yours was a happier ending than mine. Also, it wasn’t “all that for 5 Super Samples.” You also got a cool story out of it!
