Makes a screen more viewable in bright sun outside
Battery times would improve because of low power usage by e-ink screen
There are some e-ink smartphones being created

the refresh rate is slow so its maybe good for minimalists but not for general usage.
definitely for niche applications or the right person, and I imagine refresh rates are increasing
there must be a market for it as there are some models with this form factor out there
essentially like a pocket ereader, or slow note taker?
