It seems the fairer sex has taken to the fairer diet in greater numbers than their male counterparts. According to the data, a full 9% of women in the United States now identify as vegan, compared to a paltry 3% of men.

Have you actually read this article? It’s full of bio essentialist nonsense. There is even weird talk of chromosomes. It also states that vegan men are emasculated. It honestly reads like a vegan J.K Rowling wrote this.

One must ask, what accounts for this striking disparity? Is it that the gentler sex is simply more in tune with the moral and environmental imperatives of eschewing animal products? Or is there something more primal, more innate to the feminine psyche that draws women toward a plant-based lifestyle?

I would argue it is the latter. For women, the decision to go vegan is not merely a rational calculation, but an expression of their very nature — a nature that is more nurturing, more empathetic, more attuned to the suffering of the innocent. Men, by contrast, are driven by baser urges — a need to dominate, to consume, to assert their masculinity through the mastery of the animal kingdom.

This is not to say there are no vegan men. There are, of course, a few outliers — the sensitive souls, the intellectual elites, the emasculated sycophants who have traded their Y-chromosomes for a plate of lentils. But by and large, the vegan movement remains the domain of the fairer sex.

article sucks. None of this is “primal” or “innate”, please read the feminist politics of meat. Also the numbers are wrong

According to the data, a full 9% of women in the United States now identify as vegan, compared to a paltry 3% of men.

    linked article says:

Women are also more likely to be vegan, with 9% of women identifying as vegan compared to 3% of men

Links to https://faunalytics.org/ and not a specific study. Don’t use garbage secondary sources for the entire basis of an article. These numbers are too high to be true. Note that, whatever study Faunalytics originally might have done, it was “identify as”. People are notorious liars and will say shit like “I’m vegan except at restaurants”. The gold standard is asking them like, are you vegan and specifically what did you eat for the last X meals.

I am a young vegan man in a city. Veganism skews young and left, so if these numbers were true I should be meeting a lot of vegan women. On dating apps, one in 30 or 50 profiles is vegan. This number is simply not true.

So, uh, OP, did you just post a link to your own subscription required blog?

You wrote a shitty post starting from one tiny bit of incredibly poorly sourced data and then making sweeping essentialist claims about gender. Then you posted your shitty piece here, behind a paywall!

Are you hoping that people from here will subscribe to your medium on the basis of the three paragraphs of dogshit we can read before the paywall cuts off the rest?

Have I mischaracterized your post in some way? Please tell me if so.

Not surprising when eating red meat, grilling and barbeques are viewed as masculine activities

I wouldn’t trust that number. I tried to follow the citation trail back to its source and couldn’t find the relevant study.

The link in the Medium post links to a terrible click bait blog post from a year ago, which then links to a website called “faunalytics”, which says of itself “faunalytics conducts research and shares knowledge to help advocates help animals effectively”. But I couldn’t find the actual study with the 9% and 3% numbers. It might be there, but I couldn’t find it.

This reminds me of how, even though I’m pansexual and don’t necessarily care about gender in my partners, I most certainly have a higher chance of ending up with a woman. They tend to be more likely to have traits I find more attractive and desirable, and veganism is one of them; it’s a requirement actually. I also tend to prefer people who have long hair and are really empathetic and don’t have toxic masculinity. If I meet a man with those boxes checked, I’d be fine with dating him, but it just seems so unlikely these days, especially with all the manosphere stuff that I see spreading too damn much.

Yeah, it’s no shock that women, members of an underprivileged group, have ties to ideologies focused on uplifting and liberating the underprivileged. Animals also happen to be very underprivileged.
