I was eating vegetarian for about 10 years before I tried an impossible burger at Arooga’s. I was underwhelmed, as well. It was just a “meh” burger. I think BK does it better. It’s not gourmet fare, but it approximates the fast food experience I remember from my meat-eating years, and sometimes I need to revisit it.
I recently ate a burger king vegetarian (or vegan, I don’t remember) burger and it was surprisingly good. I mean, I haven’t eaten meat in years so I cannot compare, but it was quite a bit better than I expected from a fast food place.
At this point I don’t even see the point in going back to eating meat at all haha. Replacements have come such a long way.
I know a lot of vegetarians aren’t fans of fake meat, but a package of Impossible Burger and a can of Manwich sauce makes a convincing sloppy joe. I prefer Quorn grounds for taco filling. However, like you, I haven’t had the real thing in years, so I don’t have much basis for comparison.

You can use soy granulate for sloppy joes. Works great.

Arg, why does my app not have an edit button x.x
I wanted to add: As a meat-eater I was really surprised how good it tastes. And surprisingly it satisfies my hunger way better than expected.
I can also say: The veggie-nuggets from the golden arches are good as well
