For some reason, that’s extremely offensive to me, even if they worked flawlessly.

Why would one want it to emit UV? We can’t see it, and it damages us.
Because some UV light is healthy for us. We generate vitamin D and it’s good for our mental health to have sunlight.
People in places that don’t get sun for parts of the year have UV lights to help keep them sane.
