Thanks! I know nothing about hosting servers. It is something that does sound interesting to me and I wouldn’t mind learning.
And by like-minded, I wasn’t meaning in reference to me, but to each other. We don’t have a cohesive userbase, but we do seem to have a healthy culture. So I meant that part as a compliment.
As for me, I wouldn’t have any better luck in finding users who think like me, even if I ran my own instance. That is just reality.
8$ for a domain for the first year (17$ a year after that for a .com). 12$ a month for a little 2gb of ram server over at dreamhost.
Need access to either a linux computer, mac computer, or windows computer with windows linux subsystem (windows 10 or 11) with ssh installed.
The rest is running a simple script that auto sets it up for you. Dream host automatically opens the ports for you. It’s pretty simple and I can walk you through it if you ever want to.
Thanks. Well, I prefer Windows 7, and if ReactOS was stable and complete enough, I’d use that. I don’t know if I’d have compatibility. That’s why I use the Java version of Minecraft and not the “Windows” version, for instance.
Fediverse is dope. You would be a good admin. Should run your own instance. Lemmy or Mastodon.
