Global ice cover, which is how I initially interpreted it as meaning, then we are truly gone. Partial Ice cover, here we can interpret “we” as the current civilization, that will be gone. I did not consider scenario 2 as much as I should have, but since the author didn’t specify closer, I jumped to scenario 1 and worked from there
