I got a respiratory infection and got prescribed Prednisone to fight it. The Prednisone has been helping, but has made my symptoms of schizophrenia a lot worse, including dangerous mood swings and tweaky paranoia. Does anybody have any suggestions for dealing this this?

I guess I feel like I’m too late into the prescription for a change to really matter. I’m almost over the sickness now, and only have one day of the steroid left. I didn’t realize how manic/psychotic it was making me until last night, so at this point I feel like I kinda have to just eat it. Should I be worried about the after effects? I may ask a psych about that

Probably still talk to the doctor? They might know about lingering effects, and they’ll be able to update whatever files they have so they know to use something else if you ever need it again.

In my head, before I clicked on this, I was positive you were talking about anabolic steroids and that the subject matter was wildly different. My heart goes out to you. Even if you have the one day left of treatment, it still seems prudent to talk to your provider about your severe side effects because god forbid you get another infection you won’t be caught on the backfoot if they try to give you prednisone again. You’ll be aware of your options. You might even help someone else out if that provider is assisting someone else with a similar background.

I’m in a similar situation - respiratory issue and steroids. definitely notice that I’m much quicker to go from zero to 1000 on the anger scale…
