That definitely happens a lot with Democratic politicians, but I don’t think that’s what happened here. Because this is specifically targeted at the Capitol and House office buildings and will likely only affect McBride, backing down here is a purely symbolic retreat. It’s not like she’s backing down from fighting for trans rights as a whole (at least, I don’t expect that she will).
Conversely, taking a stance on that single issue would rule her out of doing any other aspect of her job. You’re right, it’s important, but more can be achieved by going along with it.
