Well, I like gnome a lot. However, COSMIC’s ability to color windows is better imo. It has a different control/settings app. And everything, so far, feels built in. Not just packaging it with an existing app.
It’s made with rust, so it’s theoretically faster. It’s NEW and doesn’t have legacy requirements.
However, its ability to customize is not as great as gnome… for ME, that’s a plus. I want something that keeps a consistent look and feel. I don’t need to (forgive the phrase) “rice” my DE.
It’s still in alpha, but you can get a pop_os! ISO with it and run it in a VM to check it out.
Yeah, I agree with you for older hardware, speed and performance trumps modernity and fancy graphics.
If you like gnome though, for newer hardware, you should keep an eye on COSMIC. It’s gnome-like, and has the potential to beat it.
