Summary

Sen. John Fetterman faced backlash from progressives after his first post on Truth Social calling the hush-money case against Trump “bullshit” and suggested pardons for both Trump and Hunter Biden.

Fetterman reiterated his stance from recent interviews, arguing such cases erode public trust in institutions.

The response has been divisive, with Trump supporters and progressives both criticizing him.

Fetterman’s broader shifts, including support for Israel and mocking climate activists, have alienated some Democratic supporters while gaining him favor among conservatives.

This is a man representing a purple state seeing not only his state but the entire country shift pretty solidly to the right and is just hedging his bets accordingly. And a sad but true fact is that if you want to have a political career, you bend the knee to Trump. You make the pilgrimage to Maralago, you buy his overpriced watches, you stay in his hotel rooms, you cater to his base on his platform. Whatever way you choose, the main goal is just to curry favor with Trump. And Fetterman has decided that bending the knee to Trump is the best move for his political career. Given the hard shift to the right the country is taking, he may not be wrong.

And before anybody hops on me, I’m not saying I agree with the man or am trying to excuse his behavior or anything like that. I’m just saying that strictly from the perspective of what is most likely to get him re-elected in Pennsylvania or advance his political career, bending the knee to Trump may be what he feels is the best way forward.
