The war’s purpose is purely to let Ukraine continue to aspire to NATO membership and to host US missile bases. Ukraine can aspire to peaceful prosperity, with Russia’s blessing, without such aspirations, that ironically, have no credible path to being achieved anyway. OP does describe stopping support of Ukrainian nazi evil, as “pivot to China war” opportunity. So endless war mission is still on the plate, even if losing wars are abandonned early instead of milking them for more weapons boondoggles.
