Summary

Did you hear Trump talking about rare earth, “We need that rare earth” WTF? He has NO idea what rare earth minerals are. He really is a kid with a word of the day calendar but refuses to read the definition of the word he is using.

Trump became a monster that got away from the Republican Party, now watch as he turns on his handlers too. His ego will just continue to grow and he’ll think he’s unstoppable.

Thinking of Trump as “controlled” by Russia has always been an obviously bad idea. It’s not how things work.

I honestly don’t hate this idea entirely. Especially if it means actually raising our support for Ukraine. Putin will be furious and release everything he has on trump.
Ukraine was the the #1 reason I voted for Kamala. And Trumps demand for “rare earth” is the best news I’ve heard in 2 months.
Ukraine’s resources were always going to be part of the calculation. I read this as Trump gross way of acknowledging that abandoning them is against our interests and signaling to his supporters a justification for the 180.
It also shows that there may be a way to work with the shitgibbon from Europes perspective, even if it is problematic. They can still get him to a beneficial position.

Rare earths have approximately the same concentration everywhere. Both the US and Russia have way more of them than Ukraine.
It’s hard to understand what crazy idea Trump has about them. Maybe it’s just an excuse for the 180º turn.

I’m on the fence. What does Trump need from Putin now? He won a second term. Putin has shown himself to be fundamentally weak with Ukraine. Trump has no need to repay any Russian debts. And any compromat at this point would be easily hand waved away.
you think trump thinks his second term is the end of his time as “most powerful person in the world”, after all the indictments and prosecutions still pending? i’d love to have your sort of confidence in what’s going to be left of the tatters of our democratic institutions and military readiness in 2029. i truly think it has something to do with breaking the world, allowing it to suffer, and then remaking it how he (and vlad) want to, celebrating it’s rebirth. they’ve got an open field now, with no one capable of stopping them. what does trump need from putin, nothing, what does he want, everything.
