Adding some context for this video.

Syberbolt is a former Paladins turned gaming variety YouTuber who has done three videos on Phantasy Star 2: New Genesis. This is the third one. (first and second vids linked here for context, but they’re very long: about 3 hours overall.)

A TL;DW of the video, to both recap the situation and sum up this video (which is 80 mins long):

  • Syberbolt’s previous videos exposed the dismal state of PSO2:NG’s launch and corruption within the game’s community moderators.

  • He faced a lot of backlash in the form of harassment and slander due to his last two videos, and suspects that the PSO2 community manager (GWIZ) or other moderators on the official PSO2 Discord server are going so far as to make burner accounts on Discord and Reddit to publicly shit on him.

  • The official PSO2 Discord censors Syberbolt’s videos, and bans anyone from the server who even mentions him.

  • SEGA falsely and unfairly bans his PSO2 account for ‘hacking’ in retaliation towards the past videos he made criticizing their game and how they were poorly running the community. Why hacking? Because the reason instantly discredits any claims Syberbolt can make of being innocent and allows Sega customer support to fob him off and provide zero evidence of the real reason for the ban. The ban even made it to the frontpage of the /r/SEGA and /r/Asmongold subreddits.

  • As a result of the ban, he makes a new account, levels it to max and goes through all the new content so he could create a third video on the subject. The updates are a mix of mediocre new content and really bad system changes to make the game more pay-to-win and grindy.

  • During the video, he experiences loads of glitches with the new content including an endless loading screen loop that went unfixed for months, plus another one which forced him to (unsuccessfully) repair, (unsuccessfully) reinstall the game, uninstall/reinstall Windows entirely and even replace his hard drive just to get the game to stop spawning him on an empty map.

  • June 2023’s update disappoints a huge portion of the community who expected Sega to fix the game’s problems, despite them clearly stating that the main focus would be player housing.

Yeah. I liked old PSO2’s story and gameplay and I tried to like NGS but the boring 2 button combat, lack of content, and hyper-sexualized cosmetics make it very hard.

Perfectly said. It truly is a shame. My memories of playing PSO on the Dreamcast, ethernet cord strung across the room and all, will always be warm and fuzzy. So at least there’s that.
