Summary

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes harshly criticized Department of Justice lawyers during a hearing on the Pentagon’s transgender military ban.

She repeatedly admonished government attorneys for being unprepared, misrepresenting scientific studies, and inconsistencies between court filings and public statements.

The case involves a lawsuit filed by Nicolas Talbott and other service members who claim the ban violates Fifth Amendment protections.

Reyes challenged the Pentagon’s interpretation of research data that allegedly justified the transgender ban and demanded Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth clarify his social media post stating “Transgender troops are disqualified from service without an exemption” by March 17.

The judge ended the social media post discussion by giving the government until March 17 to obtain a declaration from Hegseth that his X post did not accurately reflect the position of the Department of Defense. Otherwise, the court would take the X post into account when ruling on the preliminary injunction, Reyes said.

Every time I see Republicans taking a new low on attacking trans people, all that tells me is that’s how Republicans deserve to be treated in the future.

When I see Republicans calling for the erasure of trans people, what do you think that tell me Republicans deserve to be treated like?

Either the behavior is wrong or it isn’t.

If you think it is wrong, then you would wrong for wanting to do the same to them.

If you think it isn’t wrong, then you’re okay with erasure and mistreatment as long as you get to choose the people being mistreated and erased.

Thinking “they do it and I don’t like it, so I’m going to do it to them” just makes you a hypocrite.
