Noob question: Although extracting drinkable water from seawater is ecologically questionable, could we extract sodium from the brine produced for battery manufacturing?

Dead sea is probably a cheaper source, since it’s already highly concentrated. However, if logistics are a problem, but you happen to have an RO plant nearby, it might make sense. There’s still plenty of water in the reject, so further concentration is required, and those expenses will add up.
Sodium-ion batteries are great for everything except power density. So, for a powerbank they’re suboptimal, but i’d love to have a massive bank in a home-battery system, or anywhere else it doesn’t need to move (much).
Best of all, the power bank should outlive several phones.
