And they’ll vote for him (or anyone else with an ‘R’ next to their name) anyway.
He’ll win next year +10.
These people are angry now but they hate Democrats too much to vote for them.
Are democrats planning to tax the rich? Also no? Then why bring them into the picture?
Because the alternative is fucking fascism.
Are there any laws in the States that prevent additional political parties to stand in elections, beyond the basic two flavours?
Not in any appreciable manner. Most of the legislation is for the individual candidate not their party or lack thereof, however first pass the post devolves to a two party system by it’s very nature. Add the Electoral college and the fact that primaries are run by the Political parties themselves, states run the elections with little to no federal standardization in voting and you get the current mess the US is in.
This isn’t considering the influence money/corporations/billionaires have with SuperPACs nor the vote suppression. The cluster is sufficiently fucked.

The democrats are rich too
Then run a left leaning independent with messaging packaged for them to agree with. A lot on the right wanted Sanders in 2016. Medicare/Medicaid for all. Tax breaks for working families and raising taxes on corporations and the ultra wealthy.
See that was tried last year in Nebraska for a senate seat, and the unpopular Republican still won.
Y’all think it’s easy. That a bunch of white rural folks are gonna run to some magic progressive candidate as long as they aren’t a democrat.
90% of Nebraskans would rather shoot Bernie than vote for him.
I’ve seen this a lot lately and I don’t see how people really think an Independent has good shot at anything right now. We are so insanely and annoyingly divided right now that many feel like they absolutely have to be on one side or the other. The thought of a candidate that’s not team red or team blue will make most people shit their pants. At this point a vote for an independent is nothing more than just a vote for whoever is your opposition party.
Of course this could easily change if we didn’t have first past the polls voting but heaven forbid we even look down that blasphemous road.
10% approval is a bit low

Nebraskans hate ALL politicians. However Trump and his policies are losing ground there.
I don’t think there’s some magical candidate that’ll win in Nebraska. I’ve been at this long enough to know that. It just seems people have forgot how policies and consistent messaging can win campaigns.
@mutual_ayed@sh.itjust.works
messaging packaged for them ro agree to.
This messaging would have to read “I’m gonna put everything back where it belongs: gays back in the closet, blacks back on the plantations, immigrants back in the jungle, and women back in the kitchen.”
They hate others, period. They hate whoever their fascist media diet tells them to hate. They would rather burn the country to the ground than to accept that a minority somewhere gets the same privilege that they do. This is the only thing they vote on.
That doesn’t seem to be born out in policy or the media though…

Here is an article written back in 2024 where support for tax cuts for the rich (which is part of why Flood got shouted down at the town hall) is dubios and some Republican state representatives call dubious benefit if you project the Nebraskan budget to 2027…
I’m not saying that all Nebraskans even know about any of this, but the frothing evil hate mongering voters you’re referring to, don’t seem to be the majority. They exist, and they’re loud, but they’re not the sole voting population of Nebraska. And frankly I agree with you. Nebraska deserves better. We all deserve better.
I’m happy Flood got shouted down and I hope there are more public demonstrations decrying what’s been rotting at the core of this country. Billionaires hoarding wealth and creating massive inequality intersectionally throughout the whole of society.
That truly warms my heart <3
Mine too.
@usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml And then they’ll go and vote for Trump again in 2028. This outrage at the rich won’t survive contact with Fox News tonight, let alone next election cycle.
