This is the first non-Revelation Space book by Alastair Reynolds that I have read, and I loved it! It started out very simple. As the story progressed, it increasingly became evident that something very weird was going on. There were subtle clues to pick up on and I found myself tearing through the book trying to put together all the pieces of the puzzle. Towards the end, when everything started getting clear, the final solution to the puzzle was doubly satisfying since I had already managed to decipher a part of the mystery till that point. I found the end of the book to be unexpectedly emotional. I will definitely count this book amongst my favourite scify books! Thoughts?
Loved it too. It’s been a year or so but I feel like this was a two day read for me. I couldn’t put it down.
Me too. Just couldn’t put it down once I started. Had a lot of fun.
Loved it. I’ve read lots of his books, and this one was so different from the other ones. When reading it, there were more and more details that bothered me & didn’t add up, but I just thought “huh, he’s sloppy with details, he usually is so good about those things.” So it took me quite a while to really see that something major was going on & it was very rewarding.
Could you suggest some of his non revelation space books that would be as interesting and rewarding?
“Revenger”. Victorian pirates. In space! Of course, it’s actually much more than that. “Revenger” is the first of a three book series.
Hmm sounds interesting. Adding to my list.
Also Slow bullets. It’s a shorter story (novella) and it’s a pretty nice idea/setting although some of the characters’ decisions were really frustrating.
