    The interpretation that the “observer” just by looking changes the system is pure idealism and it’s this interpretation that first gave rise to quantum gurus everywhere saying how important “your mind” is.

    Mostly because in quantum physics, the observation is a nothing but a measurement which collapses the wave function of the quantum object measured. That is, any observation is bound to affect the system it is measuring, because there is no way you can gather information without interacting with the system in the first place.

    So no, the experiment does not care if the human observer is looking or not. Besides, there’s nothing mysterious about the interference pattern as well, it has been thoroughly studied by Bohm and de Broglie, but I guess this doesn’t give munition for quantum idealists to publish their books and profit from the ignorance of the general population (Deepak Chopra guru style), after all people want to believe that they have the control of their destiny if they follow simple steps described by someone else (somehow)
