Are there differences between ISPs (Swisscom, UPC, …) and their routers/modems when it comes to port-forwarding, IP management and so on?

Does anyone have previous experiences and suggestions, for which ISP I should go?

Last time I checked, init7 was the favorite for a lot of people in Switzerland.

I only have experience with Swisscom myself. With their router you can set up port forwarding, and enter your own dns server and static ips and so forth. Never felt like anything was missing or I couldn’t do what I wanted.

I heard that with wingo and other cheaper isps on the other hand don’t allow you to configure everything, even though they use the same hardware (better call them and check directly with them before agreeing to a contract).

Also. Last time I considered switching isps i considered sunrise (cheap) and they felt very scammy on the phone… experience may vary… but i felt pressured into signing with them and ultimately decided against it.

Now I just wish fiber was available and offered to us at our home 🤦‍♂️

    Good luck! 👍

Init7 has been extremely easy to work with and open to customization (use your own hardware if you want). I would absolutely recommend them.

I am with sunrise. By default i had a ipv6 adress and thus could not use portforwarding but after a call they changed it.
