Well, whew! As a result of Reddit’s recent spark of genius, the number of users looking for a new home has been growing at quite a brisk pace. In the last 12 hours, over 30 new membership applications were received. This has never happened before in Sopuli’s short history. It’s a bit like what happened to Mastodon when Twitter had its own spark of genius. I’m surprised and also excited.
Anyway, welcome to new users! Feel free to check out Sopuli and Lemmy in general. If you have any questions, you should first check FAQ if the question has already been answered. A list of communities, both on Sopuli and on other instances, is conveniently displayed in Communities and here. If you are planning to create a new community for a topic, you should check there to see if one has already been created and if the topic is fitting for it.
No huh huh! Redditin viimeaikaisten neronleimauksien seurauksena uutta kotia etsiviä käyttäjiä on tullut varsin reippaalla tahdilla. Viimeisen 12 tunnin aikana tuli yli 30 uutta käyttäjähakemusta.
Welcome, Tervetuloa!
Signup approval waiting sucks, but we will approve them within 24h!
About Sopuli
Sopuli and other Lemmy servers like beehaw.org offer an alternative to link aggregation social media sites like Reddit (which is no doubt the reason for this influx of new users). All these servers communicate together, so it doesn’t actually matter which of them you register at as long as the rules and admins suit you. You can post to beehaw communities from Sopuli and vice versa.
More detailed info will be compiled in the FAQ.
What is Lemmy?
Lemmy is the software that powers the websites.
Why Sopuli/Lemmy instead of the other Reddit alternatives?
With Lemmy, you can choose your administrator or choose to administrate yourself, and still be connected to the same overall network. An inherent benefit for this is that no one corporation, entity or person can own the network and you will not be under the whims of one corporate leadership.
Kiitos, friend :)
Thanks for the warm welcome and helpful links! Looking forward to spelunking around.
I was approved in less than 30 minutes, thanks for the speedy process 😋
Spamming F5 at work 👍
Please dont refresh spam on websites. When multiple users are doing that its effectively a ddos attack.
You either take my wording too seriously or you didn’t realize I’m talking about the administrator’s sign up application page (which only me an QuentinCallaghan have access to anyway). Or both. Don’t worry, the more we refresh, the faster you guys get in :).
I kind of wanted to say it in general, so anyone reading the post will be reminded of it. I also misunderstood what you meant and didnt even notice that you were an admin :b
Thank you for allowing me to participate in the greater community from this instance. I’d be interested to help pay for server costs since I know they’re not free. The forum is dead, long live the forum!
Kiitos, että sallit minun osallistua suurempaan yhteisöön tästä instanssista. Olisin kiinnostunut auttamaan palvelinkustannuksissa, koska tiedän, että ne eivät ole ilmaisia. Foorumi on kuollut, eläköön foorumi!

Thank you for approving me! I’m a refugee from reddit is fun.
I’m here to check things out. I’m terribly sad that 3rd party app Boost for Reddit might become defunct.
Hoping I can learn & like fediverse/Lemmy.
AFAIK there are some plans/considerations, at least for some of the 3rd apps, to migrate to/support Lemmy. so maybe in the near future you can have Boost for Lemmy - at least one can dream…
although, I must say, Jerboa is a bit buggy in some parts and could use some mir features, but I think, it already has a very good and useable base
I used Lemmur and it was too buggy mess for me. Luckily Lemmy’s UI is responsive, working nicely on mobile.
I think that’s abandoned. Jerboa seems ok.
I feel your pain- I’m still holding out hope for a Boost for Lemmy, but not sure that’s realistic any time soon. The r/boostforreddit sub was pushing for that but after the past few weeks I wouldnt blame the devs for taking a break.
He’s a one man show. I’m sure he has better things to do than deal with the Reddit headache.
Well, now I’m ready for the inevitable implosion of Reddit. Glad to be here.
Hi y’all! Somehow I never heard of Lemmy or Fediverse before finding out about this instance in r/Suomi.
It all seems awesome, definitely diving deeper into this now.
Kiitos for the sopuli showrunners!
First time on a Lemmy instance, and I though Sopuli looked inviting. I appreciate you taking me, and some of my fellow supporters of the Reddit blackout, in during these dark days. So far, enjoying my time here and learning about Lemmy and federated services! I hope I can learn to do more than lurk.
Moro kaikille / Hi everyone!
I just created Lemmy’s first (as far as I can tell) Black metal community. If you want to join please head over to !black_metal@sopuli.xyz and post something! Let’s get the ball rolling on here as well!
@QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz laitathan viestii jos voi auttaa. Tiedän, ettet pyytänyt lahjoituksia mutta tää sun yhteisö kasvaa nopeasti. Kaikenlaisesta tuesta voidaan keskustella.
Holy crap! The jerboa update fixed linking!
Hello everyone! Another Reddit refugee, I don’t think I can deal with RiF being gone!
I’ve already looked into the Fediverse before but Mastodon didn’t suit me as a Twitter clone, I hate following people I want to follow topics.
I look forward to dipping my toes and to seeing where this all goes.
YesYes! I guess the finnish way suits me more than the beehive way. I have been on Lemmy for two days, following with much sleeplessness this playground – it’s like children unpacking the big christmas packet, with awe.
If there is anyone here who has a little bit of knowledge about github/coding/layout, to help with some changes to make the sign-up process go more smoothly, please go ahead! Here are some suggestions that were made in the temporary server overload thread yesterday:

Dear ex-friends of creddit
… used riddit only occasionally but I am glad to be here, or anywhere on the fediverse …
Thank you admins for your kind efforts. … like all fish, so was keen to join anything with fins
FIN
Helouu.
Another reddfugee here. It’s a real reddit moment ouy there, internet history in the making. I’m happy to be here, thanks for a quick accept.
Glad to be here.
Thanks for welcoming the reddit refugees. I really hope we don’t mess up what previous lemmy users enjoyed about lemmy
Did we just blink the lights?
We got an offline moment
It happens :)
Especially when a mass migration is happening (that is also included me)
We are in interesting times, im my opinion. They’re interesting because we went from GAFA being suprememe, to the fediverse and threadiverse, to a multiheaded hydra (in the positive sense) where you join instances, that are “local” communities, that can encompass, or block other instances. We go from the monopolies of Meta, Twitter and Reddit, to the threadiverse and Fediverse. I think there is a difference between the two. Social networks are communities, and communities are migratory. Twitter and reddit forget this little detail. They’re encouraging their “competition” to thrive. They’re sabotaging their own stickiness by over-charging for API use, especially since devoted redittors can already pay 49CHF per year. To pay even more for a third party app is punishing the very people that already “invested” real cash.
