Sopuli was today down for several hours. I rescaled Hetzner’s VPS with one more CPU core, so it now has a triple-core (virtual) CPU in total. This was done both to prepare for the next week and because of the cheap price. Making this small upgrade added only 2 € to total server costs. Let me know if you see any performance boosts.
Thank you for taking such good care of this instance!
Oh thank you! Of course I could have told of this beforehand.
If you haven’t caused an unexpected outage in production, can you really call yourself an admin?
It would be really nice if you did that next time. Maybe sticky that announcement a few days in advance?
Can we donate? Let’s chip in a few bucks and get that fourth core
I will watch the situation if any further rescaling is needed and if I get reports of poor performance. I will not rule out donations in the near future.
Just curious, how much do you pay for your VPS?
It’s ~12 € now (current VPS + extra space) so it’s still mere pocket change.
About 12 euros a month now
I think he said it was like 9 or 8 dollars or euros a week ago
I hope some of the optimization code for lemmy comes through soon to lower the load on instances.
If one looks at Lemmy’s issue tracker on GitHub, there is plenty to optimize, even though it’s lightweight now. I chose this small upgrade with the upcoming major release in mind.
Thank you! is there anywhere I can catch updates about the server going down? I wasn’t sure where to look while it was down to figure out the exact reason why. Thanks again!
My Mastodon is one, also check out our Matrix Space.
awesome, thanks!
There has been a huge influx of users in the past week - what are your plans for opening/closing sign-ups for new users?
Also, are we still okay to be creating new communities?

I can’t give a straight answer to that yet.
Also, are we still okay to be creating new communities?
Yes. Of course it is good to check if a community has been created already for the topic.
I can open this thread now, so it is much better performance from here in Western Australia :)
Yay! I thought I fucked up my app info/login and lost all the subscribed groups and settings.
