Hello there, I know a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting some solid information on the new planets, if so this blog is for you. Get comfy because it's a long one. As you already know, there are 4 new planets in the expansion. We will take an in-depth look at each planet's terrain, challenges, processes, technologies, and new gear, but not all at once. In some cases the planet content will be split into multiple parts. To kick things off I'll cover the terrain and natural aspects of the planet that is closest to being finished. I'll need to be in games master mode for this:

    Very exciting! I almost don’t want to read the next planet FFFs because I don’t want to be spoiled (though it sounds like an ice planet is probably in there somewhere).

      100%, wonder what challenges they’ll think of to make it interesting. Maybe some other mechanics around heat are required for some of the recipes or to transport materials (ie keeping something from freezing)

        It would be a cool mechanic if you had to mine ice with a mining drill, then heat it up before using it in water-based recipes. Maybe it could be done with a smelter, at the very least as an excuse to give it a fluid pipe graphic for modded recipes too. Would also be cool if you had to keep pipes heated or they’d burst — there aren’t many “maintenance” or “breakdown” mechanics like that, but it could risk being annoying especially if you’re on another planet.

      I wonder if there will be an ocean planet or a jungle planet (with extreme enemy activity) in the mix.

        Yeah, I really hope for a planet with heavy vegetation like Pandora from avatar kind of world. Then we might be able to get something that makes wood and maybe better tiers of wood?

      Well, they said a lava planet was almost too cliche for them, so I wouldn’t bet on it.

        They also said they were basing planets on temperature spectrums, so there’s got to be at least one cold one. But I’m sure they’ll make it unique — now that I think of it, it doesn’t have to have ice to be cold (though there will probably be a few deposits for all the recipes that use water).

          That’s interesting. Imagine not being able to pipe certain liquids because they are simply solids at a certain temperature.
