I just played through Katamari 2 on the switch, but I played it way back on PS2. I always like Katamari 1 better.
Katamari 2 tried a lot of new things, like keeping the katamari on fire by continuously rolling things up, or trying to roll it to a specific size. None of them were bad, but they were not particularly fun.
Most importantly, the music from Katamari 1 is so much better. Those songs have been ingrained in my brain since I was a child. I still um/sing them around the house.
After finishing Katamari 2, I booted up Katamari 1 and immediately it felt like the movement was a bit quicker.
I think the next Katamari release was on the 360. I am not sure if that was the final release. I hope we get a remaster of it as I would like to see how it changed due to the increased power of that console generation.
I did not know there was more than 1. I’m really enjoying the first one on switch though. Such a bonkers game, I agree with you on the music the first game has an excellent soundtrack.
Katamari is just such a gem of a game. Totally novel concept, amazing presentation, lots of replayability. Really hard to follow up on that
I agree with you 100%. Everything bout the first game was executed perfectly.
I’ll never forget my first experience with the series. Mind you this was before the constant bombardment of footage from the internet and media. I recognized the box and read some good things in magazines about how insane the game was, and since it was a budget title figured what do I have to lose? Booting up for the first time and watching the intro video was sublime. It’s been one of my favorite series ever since.
I took a break from TOTK to get into We Love Katamari Reroll, and I’d rank it up there among the best games on Switch. Both it and the first rank high amongst my favorite Switch games and are one of the most unique games around.
In the same vein as Katamari, though nowhere near as good, is Donut County. It usually goes on sale for like $3 and is worth the price just for the experience. Fits basically if Katamari was a hole and instead of the prince you have a raccoon that expands when things fall into the hole. Don’t go in expecting greatness but it’s solid and off kilter, can scratch the itch for something like Katamari if you’ve already experienced them all.
Thanks I’ve heard of the game but didn’t Obie anything about it. It sounds like something I worked enjoy😁
Interesting, I really loved the second game and thought the new game modes were super fun.
Basically, I thought it improved and expanded upon the original in every way aside from the music. The KD2 remake has dlc for the original music though, so I did spring for that even though it should have just been included in the game in the first place.
Ideally, even though I bought and played and loved both remakes, they should have just been bundled together since neither is a particularly large game.
I need to go back to that. I’d wanted to play it for years and finally got it but found the controls unintuitive. I think I was using the keyboard (even though I have set up my PS4’s controllers to work on my PC) - perhaps that was the problem.
Oh yeah, it’s made for joysticks. I can’t imagine goes it would work with keyboards and mouse.
